I THINK MY HOUSE IS PREGNANT!

TO WHAT EXTENT CAN ARCHITECTURE PLAY A SCIENTIFIC ROLE ON MATERNITY?

EPIGENETICS INVOLVES GENETIC MODIFICATION BY SURROUNDING FACTORS RATHER THAN ALTERATION INDIVIDUAL'S DNA SEQUENCE

The projects is a dwelling space that serves the third trimester phase of pregnancy.

The narrative takes place in a research center complex located in Asheville, North Carolina.

Remember studying for exams? Using different color markers to highlight specific texts as important? That’s how Epigenetics work. Epigenetics are markers or tags that attach on top of our DNA to trigger a specific sequence ‘on’ or ‘off’. Epigenetics shows our genetics sequence to be more of a recipe than a blueprint.

Maternity is the most prone phase to the process of Epigenetics. Environmental factors play a huge role in shaping the DNA sequence of the child. This project investigates to what extent can architecture play a scientific role on maternity?

The projects is a dwelling space that serves the third trimester phase of pregnancy. The narrative takes place in a research center complex located in Asheville, North Carolina.
